We're at the end of summer and what a beautiful season it has been in the Pacific Northwest. The children returned to school today, bright-eyed and filled with enthusiasm for the upcoming school year.
When asked by their mommy, What was the most favorite part of summer? the reply was, Everything! Meaning dance camp, bible school, painting and clay classes--all of the same note: perfectly fun and memorable.
Being the way mommy's are, in regular need of feedback, a reassurance that as a mommy a good job is being done, the question was posed, What was your least favorite activity of the summer? The reply, Going to the grocery store! I thought that was so funny. But then I began to think back through my childhood to find it was the same for me. Grocery stores were never fun and we went there often during the summer months.
This past month we had the opportunity to visit the Raw Foods Festival presented by the International Raw and Living Foods Association in a beautiful setting outside of Lebanon, Oregon, called Camp Tadmor. Vendors from across the country gathered in this lovely setting to share, in some cases, a raw foods product, and in others a vast knowledge on the benefits of eating whole raw foods as a pathway to more profound health and wellness.
I learned about food dehydration and preparing different delectables in such a way that all of the nutritional value remains in the food. This manner of eating is called Raw Fooding, and can involve ways of preparing food far beyond slicing and dicing raw fruits and veggies. Raw nut paté seasoned with fresh herbs from the garden or with garlic, a dash of cold-pressed olive oil, and dried Roma tomatoes from last years harvest; a fresh peach crisp requiring no cooking topped with a delicious almond crunch seasoned with nutmeg and cinnamon, blended and sweetened with the juice of organic dates.
Not only was the gathering a perfect opportunity to network about our Pure Energy Rx remedies (and a place you will see us next year as a vendor), but it began my thoughts towards an even healthier diet and the possibility of preparing foods that are tasty as well as highly nutritious for the family. Eating light and closest to the light is the direction we continue to pursue. Having opportunities like The Raw Foods Festival encourages continual evolvement towards more profound and vibrant living. The questions I began to ask myself, Do I eat to live or live to eat? My answer is, I think it is a little of both. The more balance I create in my life, the less need I have for food. A balanced and productive life has a way of filling you up.
We look forward to experimenting with these recipes over the next two months, and will share all that is learned in the journey to a healthier and vibrant life.
In vibrant health,
